E Workplace Attitudes - The attitude of co-workers is another issue. in creating employment opportunities, the "corporate culture" or "workplace culture" (e.g. the unwritten rules of a particular workplace) must be taken into consideration.
In fact, observation of the workplace culture with frequent employer contact, is the key to effective customized employment. Without spending time in the actual business setting, or one very closely associated with it, the job creation process will not succeed. Every workplace is different, possessing:
E Different cultures;
E Different quality standards;
E Different personalities, and
E Different procedures
To ensure a good employer/employee fit, the job match needs to include workplace research based upon the job seeker's wishes, and the employers needs.
Lets assume you want to better utilize the customized approach at your supported employment agency, but as a job placement supervisor or manager, you may be unsure how to help your job developers get started. The following activities may help to define the steps often associated with the creation of new employment opportunities:

E Determine the job Seeker's needs and wishes.
E Research targeted businesses - including their workers; workforce training; employee retention; and business competition.
E Visit targeted businesses.
E Make an inventory of job responsibilities and tasks of typical workers at each business.
E Observe the workplace culture, rules and rituals.
E Analyze job responsibilities, and determine the job seeker's capabilities and training needs.
E Negotiate the customizing of the job with the employer.
E Provide follow-up and any necessary revisions to job-related tasks.
E Build on the relationship with the employer, and maintain a consultative role as needed.
A workplace culture that is a poor fit between employer and employee - is one example that can lead to failure. However, if significant attention is given to address both the job seeker's and the employer's needs, lessened reliance on support services and increased job retention should be the result. Always start with the individual. Find his/her talents and needs; analyze work-related tasks and corporate culture; and negotiate employment. It's a win-win for everybody.
